Course Description and Objectives
  • The English Learner program at El Cajon Valley High School offers students a comprehensive academic program that develops English fluency as quickly as possible while providing access to English Language Arts high school level standards.
  • Daily Learning Objectives: These can be viewed on the class calendar on the class web page.

Calendar of Assignments and Due Dates
  • Please see the class web page. Also, students are required to write their homework in their planners each day.

Grading / Evaluation
Student grades are made up of 4 categories:
  • Reading Standards: 35%
  • Writing Standards: 35%
  • Speaking Standards: 15%
  • Class Participation: 15%

Students who earn a score of "Proficient", "Advanced", or who move up at least one level from the previous year, on the April administration of the CST (California Standards Test), may earn a 10% grade boost on their final course grade for the first part of the English class (English 1C, 3C, 5C, and core ELD/ESL classes).

  • Students must complete all assignments. This includes class work as well as homework.
  • Late assignments will be accepted for full credit. However, in order to turn in a late assignment students must first spend 30 minutes in Night Library or my After School Tutorial. If students do not want to spend their time this way then simply turn in your work on time!
  • Students must make up missed/failed tests after school on the test make-up date.

  • All El Cajon Valley High School rules apply.
  • Be on time. This means be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
  • Bring materials: textbooks, notebook, paper, pencil, and pen.
  • No gum, food, or beverages. Bottled water is allowed.
  • Contribute to a positive classroom environment.
  • Failure to follow the rules may result in detention, phone calls to parents, referrals, and a lower conduct grade.
